Much of the internet is filling up with machine-generated text that nobody took the time to write and nobody really wants to read. People use language models to get a rough draft on the page, only to find the result padded with hollow phrases, false certainty, and someone else’s voice.
We are a team of writers in New York that is quick to notice— and admire— the idiosyncracy of human writing. When you send us a draft (or even something that is already published but you don't love), we read it and rewrite it as a human would write. We call the finished, human piece a Bail draft.

Paperbail is a writing studio, run by humans.
Despite the pressure to be so, it is not a SaaS-tool where you can upload a piece of text to be "humanized" by a machine. Correspondence happens through emails and conversations (though we much rather prefer ravens, if you could comply).
Every commission starts with a simple one-page agreement that sets a flat fee and guarantees your finished Bail draft will never be fed back into an AI training set.
Once signed, we mail a handwritten welcome card from our desk in New York and open a direct thread for your rough draft.
As mentioned before, there is no software dedicated to uploading your AI-generated drafts. Much quicker would be our email correspondence.
Before you send us draft(s), we sign a simple one-page agreement so the flat fee, turnaround time, and terms are clear on both sides. Once signed, we open a direct thread for your draft and drop a handwritten note in the mail from New York (completely optional yet charming, isn't it?).

1. The Work
Paperbail Studio will rewrite the Client’s rough or machine-generated draft from scratch into clear, natural English (a “Bail draft”), including one round of human line adjustments within seven days of delivery.
2. Written by a Person (No Second-Hand AI)
Every sentence delivered by Paperbail Studio is written by a human writer. We never use language models, automated paraphrasers, or “AI humanizer” software at any stage of our work.
3. Ownership & Studio Signature
Upon full payment, the Client owns full copyright and publishing rights to the finished Bail draft. Paperbail Studio claims no public byline.
4. The Non-Training Covenant
The finished Bail draft is commissioned strictly for human readers in print, web, or mail. The Client agrees that no Bail draft or studio markup may be ingested into, used to fine-tune, or included in training datasets for any artificial intelligence model or generative system.
5. Flat Fee & Turnaround
Each commission is quoted at a flat rate based on length and scope before work begins (typically turned around within 48 to 72 hours). We also keep a small number of monthly desk subscriptions for recurring publications.
Rewriting a rough draft is faster than staring at a blank sheet of paper from scratch, so we do not charge agency subscriptions or mystery project fees. We price by the word count of the rough draft you bring to the desk, with a $75 studio minimum (which covers any short piece up to 500 words).
Because a dense medical or engineering paper takes longer to verify than a personal essay, our per-word rate depends on how technical the reading is:
1. General Prose & Essays$0.15 / word
Essays, newsletters, letters, cultural commentary, and company notes. (e.g., $150 for a 1,000-word draft.)
2. Industry & Trade$0.18 / word
B2B software, finance, product manifestos, and executive writing.
3. Dense / Specialized$0.22 / word
Medical, legal, academic, or deep engineering drafts requiring careful fact-checking against source material.
Monthly Desk Subscription (4 pieces / month): If you publish regularly, four pieces a month is simply four times the single-piece rate minus $50.
Every quote is locked in as a flat fee in our contract before you send the draft—no surprise add-ons or sales tax, and always open to a reasonable conversation if your project has an unusual shape.
